Welcome to my web site, Australian Natural Images. I set up the site to display images I have made over the past 15 years, that I have been taking nature photographs. My interest has grown over this time as has my experience and desire to produce the best images I can. I have tried to make the site simple to navigate and most importantly not get in the way of experiencing the images.

My interests are widespread and vary from the challenge of capturing images of small active birds to setting up macro shots of tiny wildflowers that sway in the slightest breeze. Setting up the perfect landscape image is the biggest challenge, tuning the composition and waiting for the perfect light or the breeze to die down.

I am an engineer by profession and live in to the south of Sydney in the suburb of Helensburgh, with my wife and 11 yr old daughter. Helensburgh adjoins Sydney's Royal National Park, with its spectacular sandstone flora and bird life. I regularly travel to a site owned by the Astronomical Society of NSW, northwest of Sydney. Here I pursue my other interest amateur astronomy by night and make images of the wildflowers and bird life by day.

I was lucky enough to live and work in Thailand for 2 years around 2000 and travel there experiencing the culture and photographing the bird life and scenery. I have also traveled to Canada, The United States, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Singapore and Malaysia.

My best trip by far was spending 5 months on the road with my family experiencing Australia's remote Red Centre, The Kimberley, Top End and Gulf Country, Cape York and Queensland's Wet Tropics and Great Barrier Reef. Many of the images from that trip appear on this web site.
